KIND WORDS

Pears | Coloured Pencil | © Elizabeth Mancini

Elizabeth is a gifted teacher. I had never drawn before I took her class and it changed my life!

Meriel Lindley, Vancouver

I originally decided to take Elizabeth’s Botanical Illustration drawing class on a whim. I had no special interest in plants and no real drawing ability. However, I thought that taking the course might enhance both my observation and drawing skills. What an understatement that turned out to be!

I was hooked after the first class. It was less about my lack of ability and more about feeling confident in Elizabeth’s ability to teach. Her gentle manner is coupled with a keen ability to adapt to the particular needs of the student in the moment. She is an exacting practitioner who creates a non-threatening environment conducive to learning coupled with lots of interesting conversation and tea!

I’ve become more curious, more patient, and certainly more enthusiastic about the world of plants and the beauty around me. Thank you, Elizabeth.

Walking into her beautiful studio for the first time, I immediately knew that I had found a special place and a special teacher. Elizabeth's passion for botanical illustration is evident during each class. Beautiful books and catalogues magically appear at just the right moment during a conversation. Student work is critiqued and celebrated. Technique is taught. She possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience, and seems to understand her students and their needs well, making sure that everyone receives individual care and attention. I feel that Elizabeth is an incredibly generous teacher.

alert yet relaxed concentration

Elizabeth generously shares her extensive knowledge of botanical illustration and other art-related topics, written sources, as well as tea and treats! She is a warm and sparkling person, and a great teacher. She gives her students attention and encouragement, all with expertise, sensitivity and good humour. I love going to her studio, with its well-lit tables, outdoor trees and indoor plants, and the occasional chirping of birds wafting into her tidy, friendly space from the garden. I highly recommend her classes.

As a novice to botanical drawing and watercolour, I have thoroughly enjoyed the welcoming and nurturing atmosphere at the studio. Elizabeth is a thoughtful and perceptive instructor with a profound artistic knowledge and ability.
