MARY FROST
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (female)
A close of up of Mary's Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. The finished composition will include a flower but for now the bird hovers expectantly over a promising empty space on the page. I've cropped the photograph to show off the detail but in reality the bird sits at the top right third of a vertical page
I always discourage beginners from painting from photographs. Without the skill and experience of working from life, paintings made from photographs can look flat and dull. Mary has been working hard for the past 4 years painting only from life. This is her first attempt using a photo reference and she has succeeded beautifully in producing a lively and well modeled painting.
Watch this space for the intended Bee Balm to appear when it blooms again in Mary's garden.
